Why Drink Organic Coffee?

What is this organic coffee thing?

This whole “organic” phenomenon has really taken the world by storm. It’s good to remember that not everything NEEDS to be organic in order to be healthy. However, organic coffee might just be an exception. There are many companies offering organic coffee online, these days. We encourage you to try a few and make a choice depending on your personal taste preferences. Most organic coffee is sold in both ground and whole-bean form, giving you an option during checkout. The most important thing is understanding the meaning of truly organic coffee. We will dive a little deeper in the coming paragraphs.

…so what makes it organic?

organic coffee beans

An organic coffee bean is cultivated without using harmful pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. It is refined without using any kind of chemical processes. The taste and flavor of the organic variety is typically superior as it grows in highly shaded areas. It’s probably already obvious why organic coffee is the way to go, but we will still explain. We will also outline a few of the many benefits in the following sections below.

Fun Fact
Dark roasted beans offer a higher level of antioxidants and are the preferred choice because of their ample health benefits. Contrary to popular belief, a lighter roast tends to contain more caffeine. This is a topic we will touch on in an upcoming post, at a later date.
Organic Coffee Promotes Good Health

Pesticides used in the production of coffee beans are known to cause cancer and many other harmful diseases. Many of the larger chain, non-organic coffee brands source by lowest cost, not highest quality. Large consumption of cheap coffee may allow harmful pesticides to enter the human body. This can cause significant damage to the nervous and reproductive systems. When you begin drinking fair trade and natural coffee, you may be able to counter all these health risks.

The stimulating agent in a high-quality brand helps in improving metabolism, thus resulting in faster weight loss. Organic coffee is also high in antioxidants and minerals. The risks of certain types of cancer and diabetes are also considerably lowered when you consume natural coffee, daily. Coffee is also a natural pain reliever.

NOTE: Remember to always keep in mind that coffee can still become very unhealthy if you start adding tons of sugary flavoring and creams.

Fun Fact
In observational studies, coffee has been repeatedly associated with a lower risk of diabetes. The reduction in risk ranges from 23% all the way up to 67%.

A massive review article looked at 18 studies with a total of 457 participants. Each additional cup of coffee per day lowered the risk of diabetes by 7%. The more coffee people drank, the lower their risk.

Coffee Improves Physical Performance

There’s a good reason why you will find caffeine in most commercial fat burning supplements. Caffeine both raises metabolism and increases the oxidation of fatty acids. This is mostly due to its stimulant affect on our central nervous system. Caffeine also has the ability to improve athletic performance by several methods, including mobilizing fatty acids from the fat tissues.

NOTE: As with anything, moderation is key. Too much caffeine can also make you jittery or keep you up at night.

Fun Fact
In two separate meta-analyses, caffeine was found to increase exercise performance by 11-12% on average.
In other words, it can be a healthier alternative to those expensive pre-workout formulas. Coffee provides a boost without all the unnecessary chemicals and artificial flavors.
Organic Is Environmentally Friendly

Conventional coffee planters, in an effort to raise production of cheap coffee, clear large forest areas, causing major deforestation. As a result, the nutrients from the soil disappear and the ground water supply dries up. Organic coffee is grown with the help of shade tree farming which ensures the delicate ecosystem is not affected. Farming coffee in an organic manner means that pesticides are not used. This means that no harmful chemicals are present in the coffee seeds and it is considered much safer for consumption.

Fair Trade Coffee Helps Farmers

The farmers who grow organic coffee beans receive support from cooperatives in order to afford the high cost of production. This helps organic coffee growers to maintain their livelihood. Organic farms are certified so that all farming principles are followed to ensure chemical free coffee beans. The process of paying farmers a fair living wage and ethical sourcing is commonly referred to as fair trade. JOCO JAVA is not only fully organic, but also 100% fair trade, just sayin’ 😉

In Summary…

If you want to avoid the downfalls of drinking cheap coffeeArticle Submission, it is best to at least consider a switch to organic and fair trade coffee. Find the labels of coffee beans available to determine that they are organic. Drinking two to three cups of this coffee regularly can help you stay active and healthy. In addition, you are doing good by supporting the farmers that work hard to provide it.
